Home

This site is not affiliated with the Yamaha Corporation. I made this site to share my passion for vintage Yamaha guitars.

If you’re looking for information on vintage (1966-1981) Yamaha FG Series acoustic guitars, you’ve come to the right place.  Also see my forum for the most up to date information.  http://yamahavintagefg.boards.net/

I created this website to share the information I’ve collected over the past 6 years.  When Yamaha took down their very useful Yamaha Guitar Archive it left a huge void in what little of their history that had been documented.

In the INFO section you will find the contents of the Yamaha Acoustic Guitar Archive, with corrections and additions.

There’s also an article on Yamaha FG Serial Numbers, Interior Markings, and Labels – 1966 to 1981.  It sums up everything I’ve found in the past 6 years.

And a new article on Inspecting a New-To-You Vintage Yamaha FG.

In the FAQ section you’ll find explanations of some of the assumed facts, such as “Asian Mystery Glue”.  And dating the early models with 6 & 7 digit serial numbers.

In the Repair section I cover how to do a neck rest on a vintage Yamaha FG, Refretting a Vintage Yamaha FG, and other topics.

My current Projects.

I recently finished a customer Yamaha FG-140, and the YamaXL – converting a 12 string Yamaha FG-230 to a thick/wide neck 6 string (including a wide 2.37″ saddle string spacing), the YamaBass (converting a 1970 FG-180 to a 4 string bass), and other guitar projects.

And there are some replacement parts available.
